Erin Andrews Responded Perfectly To A Rude Radio Host

Erin Andrews leaves ESPN

Erin Andrews is often criticized for just being a pretty face and not knowing much about sports. Because of this, she often gets asked unfair questions or is blatantly made fun of when being interviewed.

Andrews called in to a radio show after someone tweeted to her asking if they could try and win a contest.

To Andrews' surprise her voluntary radio interview turned into her being criticized for her fashion choices. But Andrews' answers were perfect. Here's the transcript from The Big Lead:

Mike Missanelli: The dress … I thought maybe the dress was a little bit much to be honest with you, what was your …

Erin Andrews: What do you mean?

MM: I thought it was too glam.

EA: Oh gosh, I disagree with you, but I appreciate you knowing female style … it was a good 105 degrees … Who have you dressed? Actually, what are you wearing right now since you’re such a big stylist over there …

MM: Well I’m not on television …

EA: It is my favorite when people judge … they never really take into account the elements … so hot. Hot, hot, hot

MM: Now let me finish … I do a lot of television…. I put a lot of thoughts into my outfits … the reason I brought this up is because I would have been a phony if I didn’t …

EA: I’m glad I called when you were talking poorly …

MM: No, I wasn’t talking poorly, I was just questioning the thought process and you’ve explained it to me …

[more talk about heat, sweating, etc]

MM: Maybe a little sundress?

EA: But that was a sundress what are you talking about?

MM: That went below the knee … this is not a beef, it’s a fun little discussion …

EA: When you’re styling females, let me know.

MM: I got a pretty good eye, I gotta tell you …

EA: Not really, I gotta say …

[seems like maybe they're past it all]

EA: Appreciate the sun dress [thought?], guess what, if I had done that, people would have criticized me …

MM: I wouldn’t have … I would have given you a thumbs up!

EA: Well, your opinion matters.

MM: You’re taking a shot at me now?

EA: I wasn’t taking a shot! … I’m not allowed to defend myself? … I’ll [wear] a potato sack next time.

MM: Let me ask you this … last question, the rumor is, are you dating Troy Aikman?

EA: No, are you?

Brava Erin, you definitely won this one.

Erin Andrews Has An 'Ultimate Mega-Crush' On Gisele

erin andrews and gisele

Erin Andrews recently spoke with People Magazine about what it's like to love both fashion and sports, something she is often criticized for.

Andrews told People:

“I feel like sometimes there is a stereotype for the girls who want to look nice in this industry. I color my hair, I worry about working out, I’m into the latest fashion and makeup. And I think it’s kind of interesting that still, in sports, some people look at it like, ‘Oh, you can’t like this stuff and like sports.’ Well, why not? That’s the stereotype that I’m trying to battle against right now. It’s OK to have fun shoes on, but guess what, I still know what the coach is going to call on 2nd and 8.”

But at the same time, she doesn't want her looks to overshadow her job, and finds it funny when people think they do. Andrews doesn't look at herself as a beautiful icon, she leaves that up to the models:

"I just laugh [when people talk about my looks]. There are women I look at as beautiful — Gisele [Bündchen], she’s my ultimate mega-crush — but I look at myself as just me; I don’t see myself as that.”

We're sure you're not the only one who has that crush, Erin.

Samantha Steele ESPN

News broke today that ESPN reporter Samantha Steele is dating Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder.

Two fairly new kids on the block are making headlines on sports blogs across the web. We know Ponder is in his second year with the Vikings, but what do we know about Steele?

Steele, only 26 years old, graduated from Liberty University in 2009. At Liberty, she was a sideline reporter for football and basketball games, and she interned at ABC Sports radio and television during the summers.

The rising star started her career at the Texas Longhorn Network and Fox but when Erin Andrews left ESPN for Fox this summer, ESPN scooped Steele up and put her in Andrews' former College Gameday spot.

So far, Steele seems to be a favorite. Her personality is great and she's a natural on camera. Some in the Business Insider office think she's better than Erin Andrews already.

Steele is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Female Broadcasters Are Fleeing ESPN

charissa thompson

Jason McIntyre of Big Lead Sports is reporting that ESPN host Charissa Thompson is leaving the network and going to Fox Sports.

When contacted, neither Fox Sports nor ESPN had a comment on the report.

Thompson previously worked at Fox as a co-host on "The Best Damn Sports Show Ever."

At ESPN, Thompson co-hosted "Numbers Never Lie" with Michael Smith, and she replaced Michelle Beadle as host of "SportsNation."

This makes Thompson the fourth female ESPN personality to leave the network in the past year and a half.

Last year, Erin Andrews went to Fox Sports, Beadle went to NBC, and Rachel Nichols went to CNN.

So why are all of these women leaving ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports?

It could be money. According to McIntyre, rumored salaries for Andrews, Beadle, and Nichols at their new networks ranged from $600,000 to $800,000.

With a seemingly constant stream of new female talent at ESPN, perhaps it's just not worth it for the network to throw out the big bucks to keep the stars.

We Found The Two Dudes Behind The Epic Erin Andrews Videobomb Seen Around The World

$

0

erin andrews photobombTwo guys — one with a beard and the other with dreadlocks — became Internet celebrities last night with their epic photobomb of Erin Andrews during Fox's postgame NFL coverage.

Today we uncovered their identities thanks to a tipster.

They are Broc Verschoor (beard) and Hans Hokenson (dreadlocks) and are 25-year-old friends from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Broc is a photographer and Hans is a stay-at-home dad, and they're both married.

For the past few days they've been on an adventure through the northeastern United States. They went to Philadelphia, Boston, and New York on a shoestring budget. They estimate that they spent $150 each at most, saving money by buying $3 bus tickets and staying in discount boarding houses.

They planned nothing on the trip and spent their time, in Hans' words, "walking around aimlessly until something happened."

And that's exactly how they stumbled onto an unsuspecting Erin Andrews in the middle of Times Square.

Hans and Broc were actually in the crowd during Fox's halftime show on Sunday afternoon, but didn't stand out. After ducking into a nearby McDonalds for a bathroom break, they noticed that everyone had moved away from the fence from where Andrews was broadcasting.

They waited at the fence for about an hour, and had prime real estate when the postgame show started.

"We didn't really plan faces or anything, it just kind of happened," Hans says.

The result was epic:

erin andrews videobomb

The two lost each other in the Sunday night Times Square crowd immediately after the videobomb hit the Internet. They were separated for about an hour before Broc was able to charge his phone, find out that he had become Internet famous, and reunite with Hans.

The next morning, they struck again.

On their way out of New York City, they decided to swing by the "Today" show, which films near where their bus back to Philadelphia was leaving from.

"We weren't planning on doing anything in regards to photobombing," Hans said. "But we went down there and we're like, 'Well we already did it last night and it seemed to go pretty well.' So we just kept doing it over and over again."

This was the result:

Another:

The lesson here is that you can't plan a good photobomb, it has to happen naturally.

Richard Sherman Screams At Erin Andrews During Awkward Post-Game Interview

$

After Richard Sherman made a huge game-saving tip leading to an interception in the final minute to help the Seattle Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers, he spoke with Erin Andrews.

Instead of speaking about the play, Sherman screamed into the camera about how he is the best cornerback in the NFL and 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree should never talk about Sherman. A clearly stunned Erin Andrews held her composure long enough to ask a follow up, but that would be the last question as Sherman stormed off.

Here's the video.

The Real Reason Everyone Is So Mad At Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman Erin Andrews

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman set the social media world on fire with the way he conducted himself after Sunday’s NFC Championship victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The reactions raise some interesting questions about how we evaluate the celebrations of our professional athletes.

Sherman has never been shy, making headlines for taunting Tom Brady and for putting ESPN blowhard Skip Bayless in his place. So, when Sherman tipped a last-minute pass to a teammate for the game-sealing interception, it wasn’t surprising to see him chasing after receiver Michael Crabtree to give him an earful of 'Boast Mode.' Naturally, a meaningless penalty flag ensued after Crabtree shoved Sherman out of his face.

Sherman might have been forgiven for these indiscretions, but what really seemed to fire up our collective hackles was his post-game ‘interview’ with sideline reporter Erin Andrews. Sherman was asked to walk the viewers through the pivotal last play, and instead launched into a brief but intense reminder that he is The Best. And much of it seemed focused on his defeated opponent Michael Crabtree and comments that Crabtree apparently made.

To many, the interview came off as disrespectful and more fitting of a professional wrestling venue than an NFL conference championship. It was uncomfortable, because he seemed almost to be yelling at a reporter who had simply asked a question. That the reporter was a smaller, blonde, Caucasian woman may be significant in the reaction.

Naturally, the Racists came out in full force, as they are wont to do when a situation would seem on some level to justify their agenda. But this one was interesting, because the Apologists also came out—arguing that you can’t judge a man by his spur-of-the-moment reaction, and – by God – this man is no idiot- he has a Stanford degree!

And it’s true, Sherman is no idiot. He has written pieces about his profession that indicate true thoughtfulness and intellect. But this only loops the circuitous flowchart of the discussion back to the starting box: If he’s so smart, then this bravado must be calculated. An act. But NFL fans tend to equate this mentality more with the Cortland Finnegans of the world: Players who are aware of their physical limitations, and who compensate with Jedi Mind Tricks. Why would a man who is intelligent and playing at the top of his game need to lower the discourse to gain an edge? And from a practical standpoint, a war of words with Crabtree made sense when the division rivals knew they would likely see one another in the postseason. But after Sunday’s game, these two will not play again this year- there is no edge to be gained. None of it quite makes sense.

Richard Sherman Championship

Cynics suggest Sherman is marketing himself. But he’s going about it in a strange way if so. An old maxim of sports is that it’s OK to talk trash as long as you can back it up on the field. But if you can’t back it up, you have crossed a line that we as a society are not OK with. Furthermore, our most marketable athletes have always been those who show intensity on the field, but who are polite and respectful when the dust has settled.

Michael Jordan and Peyton Manning come to mind on the Marketable side. Whether PR was behind it all or not, their images have been so carefully cultivated that even fans who despised their teams couldn’t help but kind of like them. And as a result, they were everywhere.

Then there’s the case of a great champion from a different sport- Serena Williams. Arguably the greatest women’s tennis player in history, she has struggled to maintain a positive image. She has come off in post-match interviews as aloof and ungracious, and that is the biggest sin we seem to ascribe to athletes.  Of course, actual racism and smokescreen allegations of racism entered the discussion with her as well. It’s true that there is racism, and it’s also true that we simply want people to seem polite.

But lack of graciousness or humility is the current cardinal sin in pro sports. Our athletes can do terrible things off the field, or show terrible sportsmanship throughout the entire game or match, as long as they are willing to bow at the Media Altar and show what we perceive as acceptable contrition. Did they apologize? Did they seem sincere enough? These are the questions we need answered, and we are relentless until they have been answered to our satisfaction. There is never a legitimate thought about the need to prevent such behavior. Because these are grown men and women! (Sorta kinda.) We are only going to punish them if they haven’t taken Steps A, B and C as we expect to see them laid out for our consumption.

This would seem to me to get to the very heart of sports and why we like it so much as a culture. We need closure. The closure of a final score, a winner and a loser. This is why soccer will only make it so far in this country. Minimal scoring? Happy about a nil-nil tie?? Truly un-American, these concepts.  When we don’t get the closure we expect, we seek to justify it through our pre-existing belief construct. If you’re a racist, you are going to blame the culture. If you’re a super-tolerant treehugger, you are going to blame the media cycle and its two-dimensional court of public opinion. Any suggestion that things are more complicated than either of these ends of the spectrum simply does not compute with the sports-going public in any meaningful way. When these topics get explored, you start to hear eyeballs roll and people begin to make it clear that things like politics and social issues are NOT the reason they get interested in sports. They are looking for a diversion, and when circumstances become less-than-diversionary, it’s a problem. But maybe Sherman is just not fully developed, socially. Maybe he’s a narcissist. Maybe he’s fully aware but just doesn’t care what we think.

Back to the pro wrestling metaphor, those campy narratives simply exploited what we seek in our entertainment: a storyline that is simple enough to have a winner and a loser, a good guy and a bad guy. The original king of self-promotion, Muhammad Ali, generated this type of discussion nearly fifty years ago. Some saw him as not knowing his place, and others saw him as a groundbreaker who was challenging a ruling class that happened to be a different color. I remember in the 1980s when NY Jets linebacker Mark Gastineau was alienating everyone who wasn’t a Jets fan with his “sack dance”.  It was so annoying that the NFL outlawed it. Gastineau was white, and racists didn’t like that he seemed not to be carrying himself like they felt a white person should. But the reason everyone ultimately hated him was that he just came off like a jerk, he mocked his opponents and he only seemed interested in himself. When he left the league, allegations of steroid use became his legacy as his records faded.

There are anti-Sherman stories out there today, and there are a few defenses of Sherman out there today. But this incident will fade soon enough. If you think the media is quick to jump on Richard Sherman now, just wait until his level of play drops and he starts to get burned on the field. Love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny that this man has chosen to put a media target on his back. That rarely ends well for those who have made the Icarus challenge of flaunting their refusal to indulge us in our bowtie endings.

Fox Explains Why It Cut Off The Richard Sherman-Erin Andrews Interview

Richard Sherman and Erin Andrews

In a call with SI's Richard Deitsch, Fox NFL producer Richie Zyontz briefly explained why Richard Sherman's interview with Erin Andrews was cut short.

"It started crossing over a line that I did not want to see it go... It started getting dangerous for us,"he said.

It's unclear what he's referring to when he says "dangerous."

Earlier this week Erin Andrews told For The Win's Laken Litman that she was happy Sherman went off. While she initially looked startled, she certainly wasn't scared.

I'm sure if Fox could do it all over again, they would have let Sherman talk all night long given how huge of a story it became.

Perhaps Zyontz was just erring on the side of caution. While Sherman screaming mean things about Michael Crabtree was pretty harmless, Fox didn't want to take a chance on it escalating into something embarrassing for the league.

After her second question, Andrews stumbles (ostensibly as a producer talks in her ear) and then sends it back to Joe Buck:

Here's why Erin Andrews claims her hotel is responsible for a nude video leak

Erin Andrews

Erin Andrews, a well-known Fox sportscaster and co-host of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," is suing the Nashville Marriott over a nude video shot of her while she was a guest at the hotel, reports USA Today.

The lawsuit centers on an incident where Michael David Barrett, an insurance executive, secretly filmed Andrews changing in her room on his cellphone through a rigged peephole in September, 2008.

The lawsuit also names Barrett and the Windsor Capital Group, the Nashville Marriott's management company, as a defendant.

Andrews alleges that employees at the Nashville Marriott aided Barrett by giving him her room number and allowed him to book the room next door, according to The Washington Post

"What could a man calling a hotel asking to be placed next to a woman mean?" Randall Kinnard, Andrews' attorney, asked the jury in his opening statement Tuesday, per USA Today“It could be an ex-husband, it could be an ex-boyfriend, somebody who wants to hurt that woman. It could be somebody not telling what he wants to do.”

Marc Dedman, an attorney for the Nashville Marriott, countered Kinnard's claim by placing the blame squarely on Barrett himself.

"Every lawsuit is a story," Dedman told the jury, reports The Tennessean"You’re going to get a story from this side, and you get to decide what happened. This is a story about a serial stalker."

In 2009, Barrett pleaded guilty to renting hotel rooms next to Andrews in three separate cities, and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison, reports The Associated Press

Andrews is seeking $75 million in damages.

The jury will decide if the hotel was negligent, and determine how much Andrews suffered emotionally as a result of the video, which has been viewed online millions of times, according to USA Today

Marc Dedman, who represents the Nashville Marriot and the Windsor Capital Group emailed Business Insider the following statement:

“Today represents another step in the process of trial, and our clients look forward to a final resolution of this matter.”

Lawyer suggests sportscaster Erin Andrews' career flourished because of a nude video leak

The sportscaster Erin Andrews got pointed questions in court on Tuesday, the second day she testified in her civil suit over a video that was shot through a peephole and showed her naked while she was a guest at the Nashville Marriott.

"You got a second contract with ESPN, right? And it was a better contract than you had the first time, right?" Marc Dedman, the attorney for the parent company for the Marriott asked Andrews, per the New York Daily News.

"After that you got a contract with Fox Sports right? And that was a better contract than you had with your second contract with ESPN, right?"

"Your income has gone up substantially since this occurred," Dedman said, to objections from Andrews' lawyers, the Daily News reported.

Under cross-examination, Andrews choked up as she described how the video leak had affected her personal relationships, ABC reported.

"I feel really guilty he didn't know me before this happened," Andrews said of her boyfriend, NHL player Jarret Stoll, per ABC, "and to try to explain to someone who has questions about why I have trust issues, why I'm insecure, why I'm embarrassed, why I'm humiliated, and why I'm obsessive about checking the internet — he doesn't understand."

The lawsuit centers on an incident from September 2008 in which Michael David Barrett, an insurance executive, secretly filmed Andrews changing in her room on his cellphone through a rigged peephole.

The lawsuit names Barrett and the Windsor Capital Group, the Nashville Marriott's management company, as defendants. Andrews says employees at the Nashville Marriott aided Barrett by giving him her room number and allowing him to book the room next door, according to The Washington Post.

Andrews told the court on Monday that she didn't know who was behind the video after it first leaked, BuzzFeed reported.

"No one knew that it was a stalker," she said, per BuzzFeed. "Everybody thought it was just a publicity stunt."

Because there was no arrest initially, Andrews said her bosses at ESPN — where she worked at the time — told her she would have to address the video in an interview. Andrews sat down with Oprah Winfrey on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2009.

In 2009, Barrett pleaded guilty to renting hotel rooms next to Andrews in three separate cities, and he was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison, according to the Associated Press.

Andrews is seeking $75 million in damages.

Dedman emailed Business Insider the following statement on Tuesday:

"A trial is a process of revealing evidence over time. After more than six years of inaccurate facts in the public, our clients are happy that the public is now able to learn what actually happened when Mr. Barrett committed his crime against Ms. Andrews."

Jury awards $55 million to Erin Andrews in lawsuit over nude video taken at hotel

A jury awarded $55 million to sportscaster Erin Andrews on Monday after she sued management and owners of a Nashville Marriott hotel over a 2008 nude video of her that was taken by a stalker in an adjoining room.

Andrews, who sought $75 million in damages, testified for two days during the two-week trial, saying that since the video went viral in 2009, she has experienced depression, crying spells and sleeplessness.

Her lawyer said in closing arguments on Friday that the hotel was negligent and could have prevented the incident.

The video was taken by Michael David Barrett, who pleaded guilty in 2009 to stalking Andrews and making the video. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

In 2009, Barrett pleaded guilty to renting hotel rooms next to Andrews in three separate cities, and was sentenced to more than two years in prison, according to The Associated Press.

The lawyer for the hotel's owners and management said in closing arguments on Friday said that the responsibility was solely Barrett's.

Barrett had said he asked to get the room next to Andrews' after an employee confirmed to him that she was staying there on a certain date.

Erin Andrews won a huge $55 million settlement, but she will probably never see most of it

$

erin andrews

On Monday, Erin Andrews won a huge $55 million lawsuit over a nude video that was taken of her in a hotel by a stalker in 2008.

A Tennessee jury found that Michael David Barrett, the man who filmed the video and pleaded guilty to stalking Andrews in 2009, was 51% responsible for the emotional distress on her, and that the Nashville Marriott, the hotel, was 49% responsible.

They were ordered to pay $28 million and $27 million, respectively, totaling a $55 million settlement for Andrews. Barrett was responsible for the criminal act, and the hotel for sharing Andrews' information and allowing Barrett to get a room next to hers.

But according to reports on Tuesday, Andrews may not see most of that $55 million.

First, Barrett is unlikely to be able to pay the $28 million for which he's responsible. After legal fees, he may have to file for bankruptcy. CNN reports that Andrews could attach a percentage to his future earnings, but that it may not be worth it for Andrews to continue to seek money from him.

It's more complicated on the hotel end. It is likely to file for an appeal, in which judges could decide to lower the payment. According to CNN, in cases like this, the two sides may negotiate a settlement before the appellate court rules.

As CNBC notes, an appeal could go two ways. They could increase the payment and make the hotel solely responsible, in which case the Nashville Marriott may not be able to pay the full $55 million and thus go to bankruptcy court. Or they could lessen the payment, arguing that the hotel couldn't have known that it would have been fooled by Barrett, to get Andrews' hotel-room information, and know that he would film her.

Thus, a settlement between the two sides could be likely and could lessen what Andrews gets. Additionally, CNN says that Andrews' lawyers likely took the case on contingency, so they will receive part of the settlement. Andrews also has to pay her legal fees.

CNN says that the settlement and what Andrews receives will likely still be a multimillion-dollar deal, but the payout may not be close to $55 million and could end up being far less than half of the amount awarded.
